KR FEATURES
DEADPIT.COM
As I was surfing the net the other day, wildly
searching for info on the latest horror flics, I
came across a kick ass banner for a horror talk
radio show called DeadPit.com. Hmmm… radio dedicated
to horror and only horror… this sounded rather
interesting. I clicked on the banner and ventured
into the unknown, into DeadPit.com. I downloaded the
featured show and before you could say, “The dead
will walk the earth”, I was greeted by our two
hosts, Uncle Bill and The Creepy Kentuckian.
The show opens with a news segment covering films
in pre-production, convention announcements, who
just signed on to do what picture, DVD release dates
and everything in between. Then, we are treated to
the weekly interview, which could feature anyone
from some local, starving Indie director to horror
vets like Judith O'Dea or G. Howard Klar from the
Romero films. Once the interview has commenced, we
get some DVD reviews and all this can take anywhere
from one to two hours, depending on how much ground
the two savage southerners need to cover.
The chemistry between Billy and Creepy is what
attracts me to DeadPit.com the most, even to the
point of listening to the same broadcast more than
once. I’m not sure how long these two fuckers have
known each other but, I wouldn’t be surprised if
they shared a crib together. They have the exact
same taste in films, have the same sense of humor
and probably shit in the same toilet. The show works
so well because it feels like two good friends
hanging out in their unfinished basement, drinking
Jack Daniels and bullshitting back and forth about
horror movies. When you throw in the fact that it’s
all uncensored, forget about it!
The humor is another reason why I enjoy
DeadPit.com as much as I do. These guys have more
opinions than my know-it-all ex-girlfriend and, when
they don’t like something, they’ll let you know.
Remakes, video game films and Eli Roth films are at
the top of their shit list. It’s funny; I would
rather have them not like a film just so I can hear
them bitch about it. Sometimes they just call the
film a piece of shit and move on while other times,
they take the time to explain the film’s short
comings, usually when they were expecting the film
to be more.
Bottom line, Uncle Bill and The Creepy Kentuckian
eat, breathe and shit horror. I find myself
disagreeing with their opinions more often than not
but, that’s beside the point. These guys know the
genre, know what they like and make a damn
entertaining radio show. DeadPit.com is a must
listen for any fan of the genre! |
