DAY OF THE DEAD - DEATH OF CAPTAIN RHODES
Favorite of
The Butcher
The first time I saw this scene I was about ten years old. I remember the day
specifically because I had to sneak into my older brothers room and steel the
videotape, which he had rented at Videobiz. (Remember that place?) Well, my eyes
just about popped out of my skull. But I don't necessarily think this death is
the most original or even the goriest. What makes it memorable for me is that we
spend the entire film listening to this guys bullshit and just when you think
he's going to escape he opens the door to his own demise. Even till this day
I've seen very few payoffs as effective as this. And the fact that Captain Slimy
views his lower half being pulled away from himself is freaking genius. God bless Tom Savini!

HELLRAISER - DEATH OF FRANK COTTON
Favorite of Gavin Schmitt
Put yourself in Frank Cotton's shoes for a moment. You've survived Hell, had
your body reassembled piece by piece, much of your time spent with raw nerves
exposed to the elements. Then, after you finally get your act (and flesh) back
together, you are hooked in countless orifices and pads of skin by large barbed
chains and ripped to bits, but only after a sizable blade slices your back
apart. The "Jesus wept" scene from "Hellraiser" will forever remain memorable
for many people due to its extreme pain and suffering... quite possibly a death
with more agony attached than has been shown in film before or since. Frank's
suffering will be legendary, even in Hell.

GHOST SHIP - WIRE MASSACRE
Favorite of
Greg Roberts The opening
scene to Ghost Ship might just be one of the most memorable opening scenes in
recent horror history. Aboard the Italian luxury liner the Antonia Graza, the
crew and guests dance above deck in the warm Bering Sea air when a freak
accident causes a tension wire to snap. The wire cuts through the crowd
splitting the hordes of well-dressed guests in two. Blood begins to drip on the
deck and bodies cut at the waist begin to fall in two separate pieces to the
floor. Some still alive try to reach for their body parts that now lay beside
them while others simply fall to their deaths with two raucous ‘thumps’. It
takes but a few seconds, but the scene has the impact of a Mack Truck. Not a
single death but a mass collection of bodies, Ghost Ship’s opening scene is
definitely unforgettable.
Thanks for Reading and Stay Tuned for Part Two.
