This came up on the last podcast and I was curious to know peoples thoughts. Here's my order (1 being the best)
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Star Wars
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Return of the Jedi
3. Star Wars
I don't count the new movies as Star Wars, just George Lucas trying to make a quick buck on an established franchise.

"Oh, don't mind if I do!", said the fat kid when he saw the bakery opening next door... or me when I saw The Butcher ranking Star Wars movies.
So I'd say...
1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Return of the Jedi
3. Star Wars
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace
I agree with The Butcher's list, but have to switch New Hope and ROTJ. Re-examined today, I think New Hope is one of the whiniest things ever put on film. The characters spend a lot of time acting like bitches. Just saying. This was obviously an element of the film Lucas found important because he saw to it that it carried on by casting Hayden Christensen later on. Sad, whiny little cocksucker that he is. Christensen I mean, not Lucas. Actually, both.
Being that the earlier Star Wars films influenced my life the way many were influenced by say, the Bible, I do feel compelled to defend Lucas and the later films- at least a little.
Regardless of the half-assed, ham-fisted clusterfuck he made of the three "prequels" (did that word exist prior to Phantom Menace?) I could never shake the feeling there really was a legitimate and engaging story going on behind all the terrible acting, laughable dialog, CGI bullshit, and everything else everyone has been hating about these movies since they came out.
Most everyone added to that hitlist by blasting the boring, convoluted plotline about the Trade Federation, the Separatists schemes, the collapse of the Senate and the Jedi, and the rise of the Empire, but I thought it was the strongest part. It was actually a pretty damned good story that ran through all six movies and didn't have too many holes in it.
Again, I'm talking about the political plot that was always going on in the background, not the other 650 subplots that were going on. Certainly not the fact that Chewbacca would have totally remembered Yoda and the Jedi and would have been anxious to help when he and Han met Luke and Obi-Wan in the cantina, or the fact that R2 would have remembered EVERYTHING that happened before and could have pretty much preventing anything negative that happened in any of the original 3 films if he had just shared some fucking information, or the inexplicable 20-year lapse between the beginning of construction on the original Death Star and it finally becoming operational... I'll stop.
Anyway - I thought all that "boring political crap" that threatened to divert attention from the podraces and cartoonishness was good. Great even. Wish they had focused on it a little more because it really was a solid and legitimate piece of the puzzle. History tells us that really is how it happens - ie - "That's how liberty dies. To the sound of thunderous applause." Poignant shit.
So yeah, all this being said, I also liked Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3. A lot. Only slightly less than Padme's abs in Attack of the Clones.

I'm revising my list after recently watching them.
1) Empire Strikes Back
2) Return of the Jedi
3) Star Wars
FUCK ALL THE NEW ONES!!!!
Just want to rant for a second. I watched the new edition versions and some of the parts physically pissed me off with the additions Lucas made. The ridiculously fake CG Jabba with Han on Tattooine just pisses me off. I know Lucas originally shot that scene with a fat guy as Jabba, but leave it out of the film. Jabba looks so fake and it just isn't necessary. Return of the Jedi pissed me off the most. A whole new scene was added with the band in Jabba's palace. They added a new song, put in a choreographed dance number with CG characters and had a solo artist sing this ridiculous soul number. It felt like the stepping stone to Jar Jar Binks. Finally in the end, Lucas replaces the old ewok song with a new song and added a bunch of CG packed scenes with the world celebrating the win over the Empire.
I liked scenes with added ships, added lasers, some scenery things, but for the most part. I hated added creatures.
I HATE CG!!!!!
