Hey I wanted to make a thread about weird and disturbing movies.
I have seen some pretty strange films, and would like to see what others have seen.

Here's probably the weirdest/disturbing film i have seen.

(available on netflix instant)

'Dogtooth' - 2009 - Greek Film

Three teenagers are confined to an isolated country estate The trio spend their days listening to endless homemade tapes that teach them a whole new vocabulary. Any word that comes from beyond their family abode is instantly assigned a new meaning. Hence 'the sea' refers to a large armchair, 'pussy' is big bright light and 'zombies' are little yellow flowers. Having invented a brother whom they claim to have killed for his disobedience, the uber-controlling parents terrorize their offspring into submission. The father is the only family member who can leave the estate, earning their keep by managing a nearby factory, while the only outsider allowed on the premises is his colleague Christina, who is paid to relieve the son of his male urges. Tired of these dutiful acts of carnality, Christina enlists the elder daughter for some girl-on-girl action, carelessly disturbing the domestic balance. This movie is really good, although being very strange. The cinematography is excellent. It reminds me of the human centipede in a way, it is similar because the doctor in the Human Centipede wanted to keep it as a pet, in Dogtooth the teens are pretty much kept as pets to the father. I give this movie a High recommend if you like strange movies that will keep you thinking about it for weeks.

I would definitely agree with Dead Girl. That movie was fucked up, and not in a good way as far as I was concerned.

Dude, Requiem for a Dream is one of those depressing films that you just can't watch over again. Good choice. I'm curious to know why you think Mulholland Dr. was disturbing. I've seen the film numerous times and really enjoy Lynch's work. I just find it too confusing to be disturbing. What are your thoughts? Also, have you seen I Saw the Devil? Brutality that doesn't let up! An equally disturbing film.

I have never been a fan of Lynch's work. I liked Mulholland Dr. but Eraserhead and Lost Highway never did anything for me....

I really enjoyed Eraserhead, but also understand how some people just didn't get into it. Lost Highway was very confusing.

I didn't mean to come off as a douche, and not answer you question. Sorry, things have just been hectic on my end. But anyways... I think what disturbed me the most about Mulholland Dr. was just the... for lack of a better term... "Rah!" moments in it. It was the first Lynch movie I saw with almost deliberate "stingers", and they just stuck with me. And I've yet to see I Saw the Devil, but really do want to get to it.

No worries brother. It's cool that everyone sees a film differently. I was curious to know why it was disturbing because others said the same thing. I'm a huge lynch fan so it's always great to talk about his films.
