They're both hard to find, but a Supervan DVD is scheduled to come out in late March. Freak out! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mODHEvNKpAQ)

You guys mentioned Street Trash last week, I think... definitely one to be covered down the road. I remember seeing it in '87 as a midnight movie w/o any clue what it was other than the poster's lurid promise that it crossed Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chainsaw (or something).

Haven't watched it since, but like probably everyone else who ever saw it, a couple of images from it remain seared in my memory. Particularly one involving a game of catch at the junkyard.

How about Pretty Cool (2001) and Pretty Cool Too (2006)? I rented these two a few months ago from my local video store and I remember thinking that they would be good fodder for a Movies About Girls podcast. I picked them up because they were 2 for $1 and I just couldn't believe how stupid the fucking title was. I mean, Pretty Cool? Come on, how could it be anything but? They're your typical low-budget teen sex comedies, much in the same vein as the classic 80's high school sex romps we all know and love. Pretty Cool is much better than Pretty Cool Too, in my humble opinion, but neither one of them is particularly amazing, but what would you expect? Nevertheless, I think you guys could have some fun with 'em.

Great Spanish Zombie flick, sorta Blair Witch meets Dawn of the Dead. REC 2 came out last year and REC 3 is in production now. Quarantine is the American remake of this 2007 film. Here's a link to the trailer:

Van Nuys Blvd was pretty good. No plot to speak of, but it was a nice time capsule of the late 70's.

I was just looking at the screenplay (http://www.sendspace.com/file/kl0cov) for a new movie, Hot Tub Time Machine. It seems okay.
Must be a rough draft though. I can't imagine this line making it into the film...

Lou: You might say I'm a little bit like Michael Jackson... except I don't fuck kids.

Only problem is, it opens March 19th, the same day as the Runaways movie...

Girl in a Basket. I remember seeing this when I was about 19. The description makes it sound more brutal than I remember it to be. There's a thrilling hanging wicker basket sex scene at the end that's quite unique. Again, I haven't seen this in quite a while, but it may be worth your time.

This one is a wacky tale of a nerd who tortures a gal by doing naughty voodoo-like stuff to a doll like putting cigarettes out on her face and stuff. She somehow feels it because of a ring he found in a garbage can. Very strange but oddly entertaining. Directed by the great Doris Wishman whose entire filmography would probably be suitable for your show.

Mag Wheels or maybe Supervan

They're both hard to find, but a Supervan DVD is scheduled to come out in late March. Freak out! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mODHEvNKpAQ)

Got both of those. I would have to say Mag Wheels aka Summer School would be a natural fit for the podcast. With lines like "I'm Jill, Fly Me" and the fact that it was directed by Bethel Buckalew (Pigkeeper's Daughter), one cannot go wrong. Supervan is strong as well, but not as sexploity as 1977's The Van.

"The Kinky Coaches and the Pom Pom Pussycats" aka "Heartbreak High" is also an overlooked gem. It's canuxploitation with some truly hilarious overdubbing. I have a copy of this one as well.

It's got a little of everything, girls getting raped, girls with guns, lots of XXX sex, a bit of Vomit, and a grim and grimy plot!
The cover has a label on it"
"This film contains prolonged sex scenes of an extremely explicit nature and scenes of graphic violence, which some viewers may find shocking and disturbing"

Gore Gore Girl
05-09-2010, 04:33 PM
Oh lord, I was referring to the Costello version. Not interested in the Lizzie Borden version. That either makes me more or less disturbed than your original assessment. I like to think it means I have excellent taste in nasty films.

Jeremy Vaca
05-09-2010, 05:13 PM
Rape is the most difficult thing for me to watch in a film, so I generally try to steer clear. I enjoy being disturbed, but physical illness is not usually on my list of things to pursue.

Gore Gore Girl
05-09-2010, 07:19 PM
^ No, indeed. I think that's a good attitude. I'm the same, even though I find films *about* rape to be interesting (I almost wrote my dissertation on representations of rape in hardcore - I'm really, really glad I didn't!). I think there's a fine line between what someone finds exploitative and what someone finds interrogative. I wrote a bit about this on my blog a while ago regarding Water Power, and how I found it less offensive than The Accused. I find ISOYG to be an amazing film about rape, same with FE. Then, I'll see a film like I did tonight - The Defiance of Good - which turned my stomach. Still, I don't just kick back with a martini and watch films about rape! It's hard to watch no matter what.

Jeremy Vaca
05-09-2010, 07:25 PM

Attack of the Virgin Mummies anyone? The short trailer won't make you want to so much but the description will. I think.

Not really a suggestion per say, but I didn't want to start a new thread. Kamikaze Hearts is actually coming out on DVD (well, it's supposed to already be out, but...)! http://www.amazon.com/Kamikaze-Hearts-Full-Tigr-Mennett/dp/B0037X5BCE

Perhaps the movie Daisies would be a good fit for the Cleancast. Haven't seen it yet, but the trailer seems to paint it as a fairly innocent fun-filled romp. Check out the trailer: http://www.secondrundvd.com/release_daisies.php

I thought long and hard about this after the Skyscraper fiasco, where I recommended a movie I hadn't seen and Ken watched it and it turned out to be total crap. I honestly felt bad after that, and I've avoided making recommendations of any kind ever since.

But I did some thinking and I realized that I can't control what other people think, and I should just accept this fact and not let it stop me from doing what I love; And that's recommending movies I haven't seen to a semi-stranger on the Internet, who may or may not use these suggestions on his Internet radio program.

So with that in mind, I give you "Bazookas".

http://www.bazookasthemovie.com/

I watched the trailer, and I'll be honest: It looks bad. It has that prosumer feel; Like a bunch of guys watched "Screwballs", said "That doesn't look so hard", and things got out of hand and they wound up making a movie. Comedy, specifically wacky comedy, is one of those things that seems to be tough to pull off on a shoestring indie budget for some reason. This looks like an earnest attempt, but one that has gone awry.

Of course, as I mentioned before, I've only seen the trailer. It could be awesome sauce all over the place. I don't know. What I do know is that it meets MAG's rigorous requirements of Being a Comedy and Promising Boobs, so I figured what the hell. If you feel you've done one too many horror flicks, it's there for ya.

BAMBOO HOUSE OF DOLLS is a great suggestion.

But wait a minute, there's an episode on GIRLY (good one), but not one yet on SPIDER BABY? What's up with that?!?

Here are two classic Japanese 70's 'pinky violence' films. Both are top of their game and highly recommended!

1) One of the best WIP movies ever:

2) One of the best nunsploitation movies ever:

Thank you WIP G. JAILHOUSE 41 is a transcendent exploitation picture if there ever was one, a must see. Please check out this piece I wrote on "pinky violence"...http://brooklynrail.org/2006/04/film/dvd-culture-how-pink-got-so-violent-a-guide-to-japanese-female-exploitation-films-of-the-70-rsquo-s-on-dvd-by-david-wilentz

Thematically INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS fits right next to other films on the show that explored hyper-antagonistic male-female sexuality like THE STEPFORD WIVES (as well as TEETH and maybe BORN, and perhaps others) plus it's chock full of sleazy 70s exploitation tropes, (plenty of boobs and violence for one thing). Definitely a a mean spirited b movie curiosity with all the MAG elements, ripe for review.

Well I'd certainly watch it, CB and especially after the recent poncing about with Star Wars , it would come a very poor second..
