Empire caught up with Jack Bauer this afternoon at Comic-Con's 24 panel. While taking in a sneak peak at the upcoming season eight, we got the skinny from Kiefer Sutherland on whether another 24 movie is in the works and whether a theatrical appearance might one day be on the cards.

"Well, there has been a lot of work done researching ideas for a film or a potential film franchise," explains Sutherland. "But the energy that's required to make the 24 episodes a year... we agreed that we would put any serious planning for a film aside until we were finished with the series. So outside talking about ideas for a film it hasn’t gone any farther than that. But there are certainly some cool ideas and we’d love to make it.”

So no big screen Power hour (and a half?) for the forseeable future, though they're not ruling out a second feathure-length, standalone episode in the future.

I liked last year's made-for-TV-movie. It was a good self-contained story which set the stage for the seventh season quite well.

On the other hand, I'm not so sure I want to see 24 on the big screen. It'll probably come off as a third-rate Bourne knockoff.

I say keep Jack on the small screen where he belongs. If they want to continue his saga beyond the end of the series (whenever that may be), then just treat the fans to the occasional made-for-TV movie.
