I'm really looking forward to this. Classic story, and it looks like it's getting a proper treatment.
The creatures are basically large Muppet-like costumes with CGI being used to define the details. IMHO, this is the best use of CGI for this type of movie - instead of just making the entire creature CGI, use a "real" creature (whether animatronic, puppet, model, or whatever), then tweak it to reality with a little computer magic. That way the creature feels like it has some real weight, some real heft to it.
I've seen too many movies where the CGI creatures feels like the cartoons in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. CGI is a fantastic tool, but I think it's much more effective when used with traditional effects.

Usually GregMO and I have similar tastes, but I have to disagree with his lack of enthusiasm on this topic.

Like many others this was one of my favorite books growing up and it is now one of my son's favorites. I am excited for this movie and I will be going to see it opening weekend.
