I don't like how it isn't being screened for the critics. Although a lot of horrors now a days try and avoid the words from the almighty word processors of those that don't care too fondly of the genre - I would have thought that Zombie wouldn't give a shit.
I have it set up for Sunday viewing (of course, that means I can't go to church now).

I didn't really plan on seeing it, but this solidified it: http://www.horror-movies.ca/horror_reviews_7062.htm
Unless it happens to get better reviews here, then I might check it out.

I can't definitely commit to H2 this weekend. I've got some catching up to do - haven't seen Basterds yet (I saw Ponyo instead last weekend), and The Time Traveler's Wife is also up for consideration this weekend.
I should also point out that Final Destination also comes out this weekend. When's the last that we've had two R-rated horror flicks open to wide release on the same weekend? The studios usually bend over backwards to avoid this sort of head-to-head intra-genre competition. I'm very interested to see what the box office outcome is in this face-off. Zombie's first Halloween made more than any of the FD movies, but this FD has the added attraction of being in 3D. For the opening weekend, I'd stake my money on H2, just because Zombie has a fanbase which will all turn out the first weekend.

I glanced at this review and saw this line "And finally, my biggest gripe is surely going to be the most controversial one. This film is not a Halloween film."
This makes his review completely irrelevant to me. It isn't intended to be a Halloween film in comparison to the original series. This is a sequel to Rob's 2007 film. I could care less if it has anything to do with Carpenter's original character. I'm looking forward to the changes.

For some reason I really think that TFD is going to take the box office away on this one. Those movies have generated quite a lot of fans from the teenage girls and especially the younger crowds. I think that movies is definitely going to appeal to more average movie goers that want a thrill ride. That movie is being marketed like crazy, and I actually do want to see it because of the 3D. I missed out on My Bloody Valentine so I want to catch a horror flick in 3D. I don't think the movie will be very good, probably not even average, but I think it will be fun.

Right, you're a pretty big RZ fan so I'll guess you would like that, and like you said, you're not looking for a Halloween 2, per say, you're looking for RZ's follow up. You should read all of the review though, that guy pretty much sums up all of Rob Zombie's movie's to a T:
Having said that, however, let me slide into my first complaint: This is Rob Zombie-ville. Where Haddonfield the first time around seemed like a middle class white neighborhood, this time it looks like a backwoods village that hasn't had running water in a month. I don't know why, but Zombie makes all of the characters greasy, dirty, and just really unattractive. Laurie this time around looks like shit run over twice throughout the film, (understandable considering), and everyone around her just looks...gross.
Secondly, I really didn't give two shits about any of the characters this time. Laurie bumbles her way through, either screaming hysterically or sobbing uncontrollably; her friend Annie is back, but to no effect; and most disappointing is Dr. Loomis. First time around, he was portrayed as a generally likeable guy with a questionable moral compass. This time he's just an asshole. When he's not yelling at someone, he's screaming profanities to himself. I really disliked his character this time. VERY disappointing.
With that said, and sorry for the novel of a post, I think that reading negative movie reviews often leave a burden upon the viewers. I think sub-consciously they go into the movies looking for the flaws that they read in a review... Just my .02

I can't read the full review because I'll probably write one myself for the movie. It's always bad news to read another peron's review before writing your own.
But you bring up an interesting point regarding Final Destination being in 3D. And then Moundshroud mentions that there are two R rated horror films opening this weekend. This all makes for an interesting box office weekend.
I personally think the films are going to be slip down the middle when it comes to gross. But hopefully both films will do well so we can have more horror in the theaters.

Needless to say, I was disappointed by both. :(

I read both of em'. I'm actually surprised, you're the only person that I've read that has rated H2 higher then TFD. I still wanna check out TFD.

I saw three films in the theater this year: Friday the 13th, because I had free tickets. Drag Me to Hell, because I went to the cheap seats. And Inglourious Basterds.
I might go see Basterds again on Wednesday.
But Zombie's H2, no way. Maybe in the cheap seats, maybe as a rental... but his brand of horror is getting old for me fast. I love "Devil's Rejects" but the rest of his stuff is just rehash after rehash. And I love Zombie as a person. He's a great guy, a talented musician and artist... but he's just not a strong director/writer.

Imo, the first-half of H2 was better than what TFD offered, but after that it went completely downhill and was nearly as bad as it. But TFD was cheesy on some other level, you saw everything coming a mile away and that made it get boring real fast.

I wish this would come out closer to October, it stays summer in charlotte until December, I'm just not in the mood. Too busy watching Hardbodies!

I can't really agree with ya'll as far as H2 is concerned, myself & my friends all enjoyed it, thought it was on-par & in way's better than the first. I was brutal, bloody and entertaining; and I for one love where Zombie took the story & the characters. Not to say you're wrong in your opinion, but I certainly feel that RZ's H2 has a better chance of appealing to a jaded audience than his first Halloween did (of which I'm also a supporter).

I was recently watching a interview where Zombie actually explained why he didn't want to release it closer to October. In a nut shell he said that if he released it in October or around Halloween, once Halloween passes nobody really wants to see a Halloween movie. It's like having a Christmas movie on December 26th.

I just came back from the theater. This movie is the best movie ever. It's probably as good as Dawn of the Dead, the original Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street combined. Rob Zombie is a God among men.

So I finally saw this movie last night. I'll have a written review up today and we'll cover it on this weeks podcast but I will say... I think this is Rob's worst film. I still had an OK time, but I can see why people would hate this movie. But I still think his first Halloween movie was awesome.

That doesn't sound very encouraging, Butcher. Quite honestly, I was not a fan of the Zombie's first Halloween, so I was hesitant to see this one. Given the reviews I've been seeing, I'll probably pass H2 altogether.

I saw this movie last night. I really don't think it's that bad. It's a Zob Zombie movie just like the others. The kills are awesome.

Honestly, the first time I saw it I was disappointed.... But then the film started working on me and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I went to school for psychology, so seeing the visions of two people with schizophrenia (Big Mike Included) was pretty interesting. Seeing the movie a second time really let me appreciate what Zombie was doing with this film.
All in all this is actually a good movie, and should be viewed with a clean slate... Don't let people who love to trash Zombie give preconceived notions of what this movie is going to be before you see it. The killings were great, and the movie moved along at a good pace, artistic shots were done well, and the movie was just entertaining as a whole.
Go see it and have fun with it, this is 'Halloween 2' we are talking about NOT 'Schindler's List'.

I saw H2 this past weekend at the drive-in which was definitely a mistake. I missed the first 20 minutes and then I couldn't see a lot of the movie clearly because it's so dark and being outside it wasn't dark enough like a theater would be.
I had a some issues with the movie itself. Every time "young Michael' came on the screen I was taken out of the movie because they used a different kid and this new kid is no where as freaky looking as Daeg Faerch. I felt that Micheal was very different in this film from Rob's first movie. My husband said Michael reminded him of Frankenstein and I agree with that.
Since I am a big Rob Zombie fan as well as a Halloween fan I am definitely going to give this movie a second chance.

I think I'm going to wait for the Blu Ray release. I hate going to theaters and I can drink at my apt while watching the flicks.
