Awesome movie. Total rip-off ending, though. Broke my heart when I saw in the 80's. Now I've got no heart. Thanks, April Fools' Day.

I don't know if the damage can be repaired 24 years after the fact, but perhaps this knowledge can salve the wound.

The ending to the film went through some last minute studio enforced adjustments, cutting out the entire last act (replaced by the wink-smile Nan scene).

I know this because my cutty buddy Kevin has the novelization (seriously), so I know what really happened. Who lived, who died, and who went insane.

P.S. He's in The Informant too! I didn't even realise it was him until he had been on screen a good 5 minutes.
