Message from Wendy Dio
Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

- Wendy Dio

Holy shit! Thanks for clearing that up Ken. How weird - I was just reading her saying he's alive, but guess that was some trollesque info. Very sad.

I just finished my eulogy for RJD for the upcoming MAG podcast. It was an honor to write about a man I loved and respected. Thanks K.

Dear Mr. The Late Dio:

Know that my friends and I had little respect for you in our youth. We wrote you off as being "that guy in Sabbath that isn't Ozzy". We laughed at the unintentional humor the video for "Last In Line" provided for us at many a drunken high school house party when we watched it on any of it's numerous airings on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. We were all more into bands who populated the speed metal scene of the era (Anthrax, Metallica, and DRI, which was a personal favorite of mine) or old school punk acts (Ramones, Misfits, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, etc.,) or Faith No More, whose "The Real Thing" album we were all into at the time. I still love Mike Patton and all his craziness...

But, after the passage of time and the gathering of wisdom, my opinion of you softened...I started to view you and your brand of "New Wave of British Metal" influenced music in much the same way I view B and cult films of the "so bad, it's funny" variety...that is, how can one truly say something is "bad", when it accomplishs it's job, which is to entertain you...even if you find said entertainment in unintentional humor?

Plus, you showed me that you have a sense of humor about yourself and your stage persona, as evident in your participation in Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny....

So..thanks for the laughs, Mr. The Late Dio, even if you didn't intend them....because laughs are a sign of joy. And if one brings joy to others, then that's what it's all about...

According to CNN, big-time jerks -- with a long and sad history of being clueless -- plan a protest of Dio's memorial service.
