3D at home worries me. I have a bad feeling that five years from now, maybe ten, I'm going to have to replace all my 2D films for 3D versions. Has anyone else thought about this?

Soooo, you're afraid that all the free DVD's you get are going to have to be replaced by free 3-D DVD's? My heart pours :o

First, stop worrying.
Second, refuse to be the entertainment industry's bitch. Realize that they can't force you to replace anything, even though they'll spend millions trying to convince you that you need to replace your entire collection.
Third, make any decision to replace on a flick-by-flick basis. 3D is basically a gimmick. Ask yourself if the expense of the shiny new 3D replacement is really going to be worth the money you'll be forking over. In the end, the plot, dialogue, and most other elements that make a movie enjoyable are pretty much the same in 2D.
Fourth, GregMo has a really good point.

It's a risky proposition on the part of the companies. I've got a sneaky
suspicion that it may end up a niche market at best.

First of all... GregMO eat my balls. :D
See, I'm thinking about seven years from now when 3D is so good that the viewer can pretty much be in the movie. Picture Pirates of the Caribbean or The Dark Night is superior 3D. It must be coming some day, no? When it does I'm going to be forced to upgrade because it's too awesome not to.
I think I'll probably end up having regular DVD for movies like 48 Hours, Sixteen Candles, Groundhog Day. Then have Blu-ray for anything 2000 plus, then super 3D for the big boys like Transformers, 2010, etc.
But then again, 48 Hours in 3D sounds like da'bomb! :)
