To suggest that MONDO SEXXXX: the terry kobrah story, is not for everyone would be an understatement of all understatements. The film will test and challenge the most disturbed of screeners and leave audiences isolated in a wordless bewilderment after viewing.

With an opening title card stating that “The following is based on actual events that occurred between August 1999 and January 2001 in a small town of Luminary, TN”, MONDO SEXXXX: the terry kobrah story uses a documentary/interview style to document the life of Terry through his youth to the opening of the “everyman show” where degrading acts of indescribable insanity ensue for a public audience of outcasts.

Through 78 minutes we watch in awe as rape, abuse, vomit, shit, piss, fetish role playing, sadomasochism and violence towards just about everyone and everything is paraded on screen in relentless fashion.

Aside from being a shocking and at times a nauseous exploration into underground independent film, MONDO SEXXX is also veritably unreviewable. With a story so filled with disturbing and sadistic visuals, simple adjectives and go-to phrases as repeated by mass writers who consider themselves film critics are not hardly allowing enough to scope the intended depravity from first-time film director Logan Myers.

The relentless onslaught of situations and images are given appreciative life thanks to the balls-in acting by all those involved with the project. None of the cast are polishing off Oscar speeches, but they undeniably leave any reservations behind in giving Myers an over-the-top rollercoaster ride of fearless proportions.

At times, MONDO SEXXXX reminded me of parts of A Serbian Film and Salo: 120 Days of Sodom and any ideas of whether the end product would match the absurdity of the trailer is immediately addressed in the opening credits that include a character named ‘Drama Cunt’.

Myers definitely knows what he wanted to create even if it will alienate some audiences. And his use of color, lighting, music and formats (our favorite scene included a story being told through paper cut-outs) shows a confidence behind the camera.

MONDO SEXXX: the terry kobrah story has since been re-cut from an original screening time of 106 minutes to a more compact and fluent 78 minutes. The compact version is still a strain on the sensory organs, but at less than an hour and half you now have time to take the much needed shower after viewing and while still having time to go to confession.

There is no denying that MONDO SEXXX is an acquired taste and there are likely just as many that will anxiously await a MONDO SEXXX 2: The Return of Mondo Slaves as there will be others that will sit long after the screening trying to digest what they just witnessed. Us, well, we just got out of our shower and are on our way to confession.
