Day 2 Recap: Day 3 Preview

Rate this Entry
Day 2 brought out plenty of star power on the Toronto Red Carpets. Ben Affleck, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Julianne Moore, Sam Rockwell and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were just some of the names staring into a rash of flashbulb flashes.

Among some of the over 75 titles showing across the city on Friday were Argo, Anna Karenina, Spring Breakers, The Masers and Seven Psychopaths.

Although we never got close enough to have a conversation with any of the above mentioned stars, we did get close enough to shake their hand (thanks Colin Farrell) and two realizations set in quickly. One, Joaquin Phoenix is an odd and uncomfortable looking fellow who reminds me of Beaker on The Muppets. And two, Christopher Walken looks old. It pains me to think that Walken is getting on in years. I want him to continue to tell stories about watches being smuggled up father’s asses for years, but the reality is, he and many of the other iconic stars of the 70’s and 80’s are looking battered and bruised.

We will post a review of Argo and Seven Psychopaths later today, but first, here is what is on tap for day three:

There are 82 films showing today at the Festival. Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, and the Wachowski’s Cloud Atlas will garnish the most attention. But also premiering is David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. And the animated film Hotel Transylvania.

We have a full day of movies slated with our first screening beginning at 9:00AM and our last ending at 10:00PM. On our slate today includes the aforementioned Cloud Atlas as well Paul Anderson’s The Master and Thermae Romae.
