Default What horror films did you grow up watching?

I know a lot of us here grew up watching Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street, but what else did you watch? If you are in your late teens, did you grow up watching stuff like The Blair Witch, Scream, etc?

I went and saw the Exorcist when it was re-released in 2000, good god that movie scared the crap out of me. While I did grow up watching Friday the 13th, Halloween and , Nightmare on Elm Street, I also grew up watching a lot of the older movies. My dad was a huge fan of the original Night of the Living Dead, so I got to see that pretty young. I watched a lot of old Karloff movies, Lon Chaney (and Jr.). I'm kind of glad a got stuck watching those movies when I was young, helped me find my nitch in what movies I like.

The Howling, From Dusk til Dawn, Return of the Living Dead. Lots of late 70s- early 90s horror. Never cared for the Scream flicks, or anything like that. Seems like when movies caught up with the pop culture of people my age, I lost interest in them, since I see more eye to machete than eye to eye with people my age.

Back when I was a boy (long, long ago), all we had was what was on offer on the three television channels that served the UK. Films produced by Hammer and Amicus were regularly broadcast. The old Universal films were often aired as well when I was growing up in the 1970s. My first experience with horror in the cinema was Friday the 13th in 1980.

This is exactly why I started this thread. Is there no one reading these forums that grew up watching any films post 1990? No offense to the people who replied so far. I think the responses above are interesting, but I'm beginning to wonder if we have anyone under the age on 30 on the boards.

I grew up watching Hammer Horror, Universal Horror, and Godzilla movies. There used to be a ton of little independent TV stations out there before Clear Channel absorbed them. There were two in my neck of the woods that were really good about playing old movies. I even used to watch the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies on Saturday afternoons, and that was in the eighties. I really only got to see what what playing on TV at the time, which was pretty good stuff in my opinion.

If there was one time period that I wish I watched more of as a kid it would be the hammer horror stuff. I've always loved that genre, but even till this day, I haven't seen much of it. I like the Universal horror too. I've been watching more and more of that lately. My three year old watched Creature from the Black Lagoon the other day and loved it.

I was a teenager during the 90's, but I never saw a whole lot of horror movies in the theater. My mom didn't like me watching those kind of movies (look at me now ma!). My dad would've taken me, but I think he didn't want to piss off my mom. But when I turned 17 it was on! That's when I got to see The Exorcist, Jason X, and a few others. But I watched a lot more at home, so it was older stuff.
