We have been teased about a potential Beetlejuice sequel ever since the first film caught our attention in 1988. And in the 20 years plus since Tim Burton directed the original, the character as embodied by Michael Keaton has only gained in cult popularity.
In the past few years, rumours have heated up about a potential return to the character with Keaton again donning the make-up as our favourite bio-exorcist. And on MTV News, even Tim Burton seemed to add some kindling to the fire.
"Yes," responded Burton when asked if he was involved with the project. "I love that character, and Michael is so great in it. I always think about how great and fun that character was, so I just said to Seth [Grahame-Smith], 'If you have some idea about it, go for it, and then I'll look at it freshly... In the past, I tried some things, but that was way back when. He seemed really excited about it."
What does all this mean? Well, basically nothing. But the fact that we are still talking about it and the idea that Tim Burton is not dodging the conversation and seems willing to give the character his cinematic freedom gives us hope that maybe someday….

They're still beating this? If it happens, I hope they come up with something better than that Beetlejuice Goes to Hawaii crap.
The way Burton makes movies these days... I'd rather not see this happen
Beetlejuice is one of my favourite movies of all time! I have always wanted a sequel to this movie, but why did they take so damn long? Michael Keaton is getting up there in age.
