The unfortunate and tragic July 20 shooting at the screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado is continuing to send shockwaves throughout both the country and the film producing industry.
Premieres of The Dark Knight Rises and their red-carpet galas have been cancelled around the globe this week and Tweets and Messages from the stars and director of the film have poured over Tweets and official statements.
The impact of the shooting is felt even outside of the Batman world. In reaction to the shootings, Warner Bros. has pulled the trailers for its upcoming film Gangster Squad which hosts an array of A-List talent including Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin.
The original trailer featured a scene of mobsters that open fire on a film screening audience with heavy semi-automatic fire power. The studio is now reviewing options and may either cut or completely remove the scene from the actual film. Warner Bros. is also considering pushing back the September 7th release date of the film to be clear of any comparisons. Reshoots are also being considered as the theatre shooting scene plays a pivotal role in Ruben Fleisher’s story.

Honestly I would rather see them just push it back. Editing the movie because of some deranged asshat is just giving into the thought that movies make people violent, and giving into said asshat. Movies are pure entertainment. Anyone who takes a movie to be true or that they can do the same thing is utterly ignorant. I really want to see this movie as it is intended. I would hate for them to have to remove the scene because of what happened. This is why I think they should just move it back. There are plenty of movies and shows out there that have scenes in them that remind us all about horrible tragedies that have happened.
I think it's utterly rediculous that they would edit the movie. Pushing it back is even a bit excessive. I remember when they edited the Twin Towers out of Spiderman because of Sept 11th. Remind me again when the last time was that a movie killed it's audience, ala Ringu. Oh, wait, that's never happened. Studios need to realize that it's a fucked up world that we live in and that their movies aren't the sole driving force behind violence. Just release the movies as the writer/director made them and let people decide whether they want to see it or not. I loved the original premise of this movie, but if they cut out all the "good parts", what's the point in me seeing a neutered movie?

I agree guys. This is a touchy subject no doubt, but if they do end up editing the film, is that not giving the shooter more power? He wanted to create fear and panic, even in the aftermath. The guy is going to jail, and more then likely the death penalty. Why does the rest of the world have to change because this guy did something sadistic? He would laugh his ass off if he knew that this movie was being changed and said "See! I did that!" Movies are supposed to be an escape from reality, not mimic it.
"The Hollywood Reporter now brings word that January 11, 2013 is being eyed as a potential new date, allowing the studio to replace a scene that involves a shoot-out within a movie theater."
There goes any Oscar chances.

i would pull the scene, it would have been like if i would have made a movie that was coming out with planes hitting buildings and killing a bunch of people etc etc, and then 9/11 happens, not as drastic of course but same idea

No way I would pull the scene. What happened in CO is over and done, pulling a scene from a movie won't change the history books.

Have to agree. Why pull the scene? People are going to bitch about how this is extremely violent anyway, just give them one more reason. What happened was atrocious, but to completely change something because of a psychopath went off his rocker? Well then there are a lot of movies that need to be changed. If it is an important scene then leave it in. I can see them cutting it a little short, and then having some sort of discussion afterwards, I can deal with that. But don't cut it out.
Studio made it official - the release date is now January 11th.
Puzzles me a tad. January is a wasteland for movies. They never have high grosses except for Oscar contenders that are still being paraded out in wide release. They have sent Gangster Squad out to a date of death.

just cause it won't change the "history books" does't make a damn bit of difference, and it may be over and done for most of us, but the people actually affected by the incident its not over and done with for them.... no one protested to get it removed, out of sympathy they removed the scene, and i agree with it, if they wouldn't have removed it, i wouldn't have cared either
