Plans are on their way to bring a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus to the big screen sometime in 2014 or 2015.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Ridley Scott is “actively pushing forward” on a sequel to his prequel that fits into the Alien mythology and franchise.
Prometheus was one of the most anticipated films of 2012 and it jumped out of the gate fast with a $51 million opening. But the film has hardly been a runaway success. Just about out of theatres and hitting Blu-ray in the fall, Prometheus has gathered in $302 million worldwide – which isn’t too shabby had it not been for the $250 million price tag that came alone with the production.
Prometheus writer David Lindelof may not be available for the sequel so new writers are likely. But according to the report, Scott already has the framework as to where the story is headed in his cranium. Scott says he ““where it’s going. I know that to keep [David] alive is essential and to keep [Elizabeth] alive is essential and to go where they came from, not where I came from, is essential.”
We just hope Ridley can bring this together as fast as possible. After all, Sir Ridley is now 75 and he could be pushing 85 by the time he completes the two Prometheus sequels and Blade Runner 2 that he is now heaving involved in.

I know you weren't a fan GregMo, but I'm pretty excited for this already. Though, a Blade Runner 2 scares the shit out of me —*how in the hell are they even going to come close to the original — a sci-fi, cyberpunk masterpiece. I wouldn't touch that with a 10-foot pole.
Well, and I haven't seen it yet so I base this on hearsay, but it sounds like they needed a sequel just to tell a complete story so this probably alleviates the frustration with the first. And not having Lindelof is probably a good thing from the sound of it.
Sign me up for Prometheus 2... I can't wait.
True. I wasn't a fan. But try to imagine that I saw the film before it was released and before there was any talk of it being a trilogy. I went into the screening and came out of the screening on the pretense that this was a one shot deal. That the story from beginning to end had to make sense. It didn't. There were so many questions left unanswered and things that didn't make sense that I was frustrated.
Four days later, when the week-end box office numbers were released, the film did well and the studio green-lit the sequels. Had I known that this was only a piece and that I should remain patient and let Sir Ridley tell his story, then I may have faired the film in a different light.
I look forward to getting it on blu-ray and giving it another chance.

Yea, I can't wait to see it again. So much going on to try and get in one viewing. And I totally get what you're saying about seeing it without knowing it wasn't part of bigger storyline.
I am hugely excited for this. It was my favorite movie of the year without a doubt and unfortunately the best horror movie too. This year has been rough for horror.
