Last year, we got excited when it was announced that Eddie Murphy was going to hosting the Academy Awards. We then got worried when we heard that he pulled out and then felt comfortable again when word came that Billy Crystal would again take over hosting duties.
This year's telecast was hostless up until just about an hour ago when it was announced that Seth McFarlane, the voice and genius behind Family Guy and the roastmaster for any Comedy Central Celebrity Roast, will be opening the show and acting as emcee of the ceremony.
Speculation was that Crystal would get another crack at it considering he is always considered a 'safe' bet. But the Academy of Arts and Sciences surprised everyone with their choice of the envelope pushing McFarlane as host.
At least this time younger viewers can indentify and recognize the master of ceremonies. Something that was likely not lost on the rating watchers at ABC.

Oh jeez. He was the worst part of a fairly lukewarm premiere of SNL. Not that I watch the Oscars anymore anyways.
I don't watch Oscars anymore. As I got older and effects are all done sitting at a desk with a mouse and keyboard. I've decided I would rather get a good nights sleep instead. If anything good happens I will watch it on YouTube. Or not.
