Running October 18th through October 26th, The Toronto After Dark Film Festival provides genre fans with the best horror, science fiction and cult films that the world has to offer all thrown into one fantastic week at the restored Bloor Cinema in the heart of the city.
With 20 films and 29 shorts being showcased at the event – and for many, it’s their World or Canadian premiere – we are going to spotlight a film each day giving you a glimpse into some of the action, the macabre and the bloodletting that will soak our screens until the closing night gala.
Today’s spotlight: A Fantastic Fear of Everything
It might seem odd to have a film starring Simon Pegg in a Festival showcasing horror, science fiction and cult films. That is until you review his filmography and recall that Pegg was the best parts of films such as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Pegg goes back to his comedy roots for A Fantastic Fear of Everything where he plays Jack – a children’s author turned crime novelist who is a paranoid wreck afraid of well, just about everything. Jack dissolves into madness and according to the film’s official synopsis, “is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear”
What audiences can expect is a dark comedy showcasing the comedic talents of Simon Pegg. It is a definite trip down a rabbit hole that goes in a few directions that might be unexpected for a casual theatre adventurer. Things get silly and gruesome and the movie rests comfortably on the likeability of Pegg’s lead character.
Empireonline writes, “[A Fantastic Fear of Everything] is always trying to do something unusual. It has a great lead in Pegg.” And Efilmcritic.com gave it 4-stars proclaiming it to be “A bit more fantastic than fearful”
A Fantastic Fear of Everything is screening on October 26th at 6:45PM at the Bloor Cinema as part of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Tickets can be purchased through the box office at http://torontoafterdark.com/2012/buy-tickets/
