Thankfully, for all the reboots and remakes that seem to be rumored or in some form of production, any film that stands on my list of my Top Favorite Films of All-Time seemed safe. There is no talk of a Jaws, Alien, Apollo 13, Goodfellas or Raiders of the Lost Ark reboot. Unfortunately, there is some serious work around a Poltergeist remake and that makes GregMO angry (when GMO angry, GMO smash!).
Sam Raimi is producing the remake and ha just recently cornered David Lindsay-Abaire (Inkheart, Rise of the Guardians) to put ideas on paper in the form of some kind of script.
ShockTillYouDrop was able to get a few words with the writer (who does have a Pulitzer Prize on his mantle, btw), where he confirmed his attachment to the project.
“Lindsay-Abaire said that it was Raimi who asked him if he wanted to write the new Poltergeist and that he hasn't read any of the previous scripts that had been floating around and is indeed starting from scratch. He told us how much he loves the original movie and that he hopes to pay tribute to it with his version, but that's all he could say,” Shock reports.
Our opinion stands firm on this one. Poltergeist is an 80’s horror film that stands up well against today’s standards. A reboot is something that we would like to see buried under the Freeling pool.
