It’s hard to believe that we are quickly approaching the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters. Yip. The original film starring Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray was unleashed to audiences way back in the year of our lord, 1984.
Since then, a month doesn’t go by without countless rumours about a third film. Bill Murray is interested and then he is out. They have a script then they don’t. They are about to start shooting, and then it gets delayed. Blah blah blah.
The latest such news comes from The Hollywood Reporter that writes, Any decision on Ghostbusters III, the long, long gestating sequel, has been postponed until the end of March — this after Men in Black 3 writer Etan Cohen was paid a huge sum for a script. Shooting was to begin next summer but now couldn’t start before fall at best.”
That means that we can expect a Ghostbusters III sometime in 2014 – AT BEST!
Who knows if Ivan Reitman and Dan Ackroyd will still be alive by then or if they will have blown themselves up a la the fat guy from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life that ate the wafer after his meal.
Maybe on the positive side, we can take solace in knowing that the script seems to be in place. Says Ackroyd, "My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac," he said, "He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation."
Effin hilarious!

Ghosts are in now, so it's a great time for a new ghostbusters movie. It would be cool to make fun of ghost hunters, paranormal activity, and Japanese style ghosts. Maybe there could be a scene that has them busting ghosts in a found footage film.
How about we just don't expect it at all???

It wouldn't bother me if it never saw the light of day.
Outside of the Star Wars franchise I don't think there has been another series that has gotten so much attention while little is going on.
