Review: Infected - (2013)
Posted By: bronxtko

There are occasions when you can score
a winner off of a blind rental - it usually depends
on your mood and how you are willing to accept the movie
at the time. A perfect example of said words would be
Screen Media's 2013 feature, Infected.
Right off the bat we are presented at the beginning
of the movie with our heroic defenders, Michael Madsen
& William Forsythe (2 guys that possess more bad-assdom
than your everyday Hollywood tough guys) - we are put
smack dab into a Night of the Living Dead-style cabin
defense display that would make any shoot-em-up fan
stand up and salute... |

Review: The Colony - (2013)
Posted By: Gregmo Roberts

Surprisingly not about ants, The Colony stars Laurence
Fishburne and Bill Paxton in a poor excuse of a horror/thriller.
The film takes place in the year 2045 and, to no one’s
surprise, the world has gone to shit. Famine, viruses
and the lack of a good film script have forced many
of the world’s leftover inhabitants to find shelter
deep in the earth through a new Ice Age.
Residing uncomfortably in Colony 7 are Briggs (Fishburne)
and Mason (Paxton) amongst a group of others that have
the responsibility of the survival of the human race.
Their Colony lacks color and warmth, but at least it
is fairly safe. That is, until they get a distress signal
from Colony 5 which is only a hop, skate and a jump
across a broken bridge away. Briggs assembles a team
to investigate the signal and it is obvious upon their
arrival things are SNAFU. There are more blood stains
splattered around than a rape victims undies and the
seemingly only surviving colonist is a bit, well, wacko... |

Review: Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection - (2013)
Posted By: bronxtko

How many ways can you find to describe a turd of a
movie ? Does the idea of someone that obviously feels
it's audience must be completely devoid of common sense
annoy you as an avid horror movie fan ? Is there a place
for a movie that has done nothing other than piggyback
itself on the shoulders of a classic title, for no other
reason than getting it's name out there in the vast
annals of the zombie cinematic catalog ? If you for
no good reason want to waste 85 minutes of your time,
please feel free to get your mitts on Night of the Living
Dead: Resurrection, and then shame yourself for doing
so... |

Review: Chernobyl Diaries - (2012)
Posted By: bronxtko

The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster in the
Ukraine suffered a catastrophic accident on April 26th,
1986 that released excessively large quantities of radiation
over much of the Western USSR and parts of Europe. 31
deaths were reported and thousands of residents were
systematically driven from their homes and were never
allowed to return, creating a virtual ghost town that
has stood vacant for 27 years - now come on, if THAT
isn't a killer recipe for a horror movie, then what
is ?
The only problem has been that to this day, the radiation
levels have been so high, that prolonged filming of
any sort has been prohibited by the Russian government
- in fact the only movie to film even remotely close
was Return of The Living Dead 4:Necropolis... |

Review: Would You Rather - (2012)
Posted By: Gregmo Roberts

Sadistic wealthy people always spell trouble for the
downtrodden or down on their luck. 13 Tzameti, Hard
Target and Hostel are all good examples of the wealthy
torturing and killing the less fortunate for the purpose
of their own entertainment.
The latest such cinematic example is Would You Rather.
Starring Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), Sasha Grey (my
personal hard drive), Robb Wells (Hobo with a Shotgun),
and John Heard (Home Alone), Would You Rather gathers
a group of strangers for a wealthy aristocrat, played
by Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) who pits his guests against
each other in sadistic games where they have to choose
between two options – each of which can either
cause pain or death to themselves or another guest... |

My
Favorite Friday the 13th Things
Posted By: TheDarkHours

I have always been obsessed with Paramount's Friday
the 13th series. Jason Voorhees is the holy grail of
the slasher genre and he reigned supreme in the eighties
(sorry Mr. Krueger). I never get tired of the debates
about which entry is the best in the series; however,
picking one is difficult. Each installment is unique
and I love them all despite their flaws (Dana Kimmell)
so instead of picking a defacto winner, why not discuss
which elements are done the best?
The Best Jason - This is a tough choice for me. There
were many actors who played Mr. Voorhees. Most fans
seem to prefer Kane Hodder for obvious reasons. He appeared
as Jason the most, and his numerous appearances left
an indelible stamp on the series. Still, he isn't my
favorite Jason, that accolade would go to Richard Brooker's
hillbilly mongoloid from part 3... |

ROAD HELL - Own the Outrageous and Unrated
DVD or Digital Copy July 16, 2013
New York, NY – Not since Norman Bates manned
the desk of the Bates motel has such a dangerous innkeeper
played host to unlucky travelers.. Welcome to ROAD HELL,
a shocking new horror anthology set in a sleazy, decrepit
motel and showcasing three classic tales of vampirism,
monsters and the living dead.
We first meet our innkeeper, Dickey Sussex, as he hands
room keys to a couple seeking shelter during a storm.
Lecherous, demented and barely coherent, Dickey seems
an unlikely manager for even this unsavory a venue…unless,
his role is a bit more complex than manning a desk.
Sit back and shiver as key by key, room by room, the
terror unfolds. |

Review: Spring Breakers - (2013)
Posted By: Gregmo Roberts

I sorta had an idea of what I was getting myself into
as I purchased my ticket for Spring Breakers. Its director,
Harmony Korine, wrote Kids back in 1995 and was the
director for the independent films Gummo (1997) and
Trash Humpers (2009). His films are usually constructed
through scenes with pieces of events involving characters
told in a non-linear plotline. They usually involved
characters that are young and strange by societal standards.
Outcasts looking for acceptance.
The one-sheet for Spring Breakers reminded me of Kids.
It featured an unrecognizable James Franco standing
amongst provocatively clad Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens,
Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine. As I headed into the
screening, I had expected a theatrical experience willed
with young girls drinking, doping and sexing their way
through various parties and problems... |

Review: Evil Dead - (2013)
Posted By: Gregmo Roberts

You are going to be disappointed at the new Evil Dead
reboot. You have to be. With all the fanfare that has
lead up to the release this week-end, how can you possibly
walk out of the theatre thinking it was ‘all that’?
There has been talk of an Evil Dead sequel or reboot
for eons. The original film was released in 1981 and
it quickly went on to become a horror cult classic and
made a B-movie star out of one Bruce Campbell.
Campbell and Raimi wondertwined their powers a few
years later and released Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn in
1987 and then completed the trilogy with Army of Darkness
four years after that...

In 2009, Hasbro and Paramount Pictures combined to
bring a live action movie surrounding the popular G.I.
Joe action doll to the big screen. The result, G.I.
Joe: Rise of the Cobra, raked in over $300 million at
the worldwide box office despite achieving only a 34%
Fresh Approval rating on Rottentomatoes.com and a moderate
C+ audience grade via cinescore.
But with a budget of $175 million (and thus a $125+
million profit), the potential franchise film made the
studio money so a sequel was inevitable. Welcome to

"Bio-Slime is Immensely Entertaining"

Review: Bio Slime - (2010)
Posted By: The Dark Hours

Being a horror fan can be a burden. We are constantly
hearing about movies years before they get released,
then at some point they disappear into development hell
(I'm looking at you Poughkeepsie Tapes and Mandy Lane).
Bio-Slime was that kind of movie; made in 2010, it’s
finally being released on DVD through Media Blasters.
On IMDB you’ll find it under the alternate title,
Contagion, although I definitely prefer Bio-Slime. I
first found out about the movie through its fantastic
trailer which showcases the awesome special effects,
but little did I know it would be years until I could
see the finished product... |

Review: The Beast - (2013)
Posted By: Xander Kane

If given the opportunity to make a horror short film
I would. If you told me that I had to snag the biggest
name in independent horror films as my lead I would
be intimidated a bit. If then you told me I had to have
some special effects, a full score, and have very little
money to do it all. I would probably tell you that is
crazy and move along with my day. However this did not
deter Peter Dukes from making his horror short called
The Beast. Starring the biggest name in independent
horror Bill Oberst Jr. With his name attached it already
sets the bar pretty high. Bill probably has the ability
to pick and choose his roles at this point so it seemed
a bit strange that he has done a short. It seems like
a good sign for The Beast though... |

Review: Hollow - (2012)
Posted By: Bronxtko

Let me just start this review off by saying that I
will give almost anything a chance, it doesn't mean
that I will always find the joy in a particular movie.
If I look back at a certain percentage of movies that
I've seen and disliked, I can usually pull something
out of it that could potentially be considered "redeeming".
When I spotted "Hollow" at my local Best Buy,
the first thing that appealed to me was the artwork
on the cover...looked spooky..evil skull on a tree with
a few nooses hanging off of the branch with a shelled
out remnant of a monastery in the background... |

Review: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - (2013)
Posted By: The Dark Hours

DC comics finally decided to adapt the story to end
all comic stories this year. That would be Batman: The
Dark Knight Returns. It has been a long time in the
making seeing as how the original story by comic legend
Frank Miller was released in 1986. That’s nearly
30 years for those of you counting out there. What took
them so long and why is the original story as revered
as it is? Let’s do this.
The Dark Knight Returns is one of those sacred cows
that I’m sure many thought they would never see
brought to life on the silver screen and I’m sure
it wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t
for one man, Christopher Nolan. Just as Frank Miller
did all those years ago... |

Butcher will be back. He is in the works of getting

Werewolves
R Us: BattleDogs on SyFy
Posted By: Gregory Lamberson

The latter half of 2012 saw a lot of film production
in the Buffalo-Niagara region of Western New York, where
I live. We have a burgeoning film community here, and
there always seems to be a feature in production, usually
micro-budget fare like my film Slime City Massacre or
Sam Qualiana’s Snow Shark: Ancient Snow Beast,
which I produced (now available on DVD from POP Cinema!).
What set last year apart was the number “out of
town” productions which shot here.
In July, I was the Line Producer and 1st Assistant
Director on Model Hunger, directed by Debbie Rochon
and starring Lynn Lowry and Tiffany Shepis, and in August
Lloyd Kaufman directed Return to Nuke Em High in neighboring
Niagara Falls. But the biggest production was BattleDogs,
a werewolf film which premieres on SyFy on Saturday,
April 6th at 9:00 pm Eastern... |

"The best horror documentary I have ever seen!"
Movie
Review: Room 237 (2012)
Posted By: Gregmo Roberts

Have you ever noticed how few horror film documentaries
there are out there? I mean, full length feature documentaries.
Not the small featurettes or making-of additions to
a DVD. What I refer to is a straight out examination
of a film, period or theme that coincides with the horror
genre.
There are a few good ones around: His Name is Jason,
Nightmare Factory, The American Nightmare and Never
Sleep Again: the Nightmare on Elm Street Legacy. But
generally, these films are few and far between and anxious
screeners will likely have to search them out through
downloads or by having to buy special boxsets... |
