The Interview:
So Talan, are you a fan of horror
movies?
Yeah absolutely. I've always been. There's just something
about that adrenaline rush you get from being scared. It doesn't
happen often, but when it does it's great.
What are some of your all time
favorites?
I've always enjoyed the SCREAM
franchise. I just found those flicks to be smarter then most
others, for the time anyway. I also have fun zoning out to campy
slashers like FREDDY VS. JASON. I'm surprised how much fun that
film was. I'm still rather pissed that they wimped out on the
ending though. I mean pick one or the other for Christ sakes.
If for some odd reason you had
to battle with either Jason Voorhees or
Michael Myers, who would you choose and why?
Jason, because I know he can be beat....
Well for the time being anyway,
right?
Yeah, but that would be enough time to
get away. Doesn't Voorhees stay dead longer then Michael Myers?
Um... usually. So Talan, I am
guessing you want to chat about DRIFTWOOD at some point?
Sure man, whatever... (laughing)
Tell me in your own words what
DRIFTWOOD is about.
Its about a male youth correctional
facility that is reminded of its horrible past by an uninvited
(ghost)
visitor.... man, I can almost hear the church organ whaling away
there. I think I've whipped that line off too many times.
So it's more of a supernatural film
then thriller?
Little bit of both actually. It's a
true story too. Well, based on actual events, which creeps me
out.
How does Yates (your character)
fit into the story?
Well, he went to school with the kids and when he graduated his
parents obviously didn't want him and he learned no proper
education at Driftwood. So he decided to be the middle man
between Captain Kennedy (Diamond Dallas Page) and the boys... So
its a push pull relationship.
What was it like working with
Tim Sullivan?
He's a great director. We were pressed for time more often then
not and because of that we had to cram shots in at the last
minute and it's these moments that Tim handles exceptionally
well. He's great under pressure, and always manages to get the
right shots.
He's also got a great personality,
funny as shit. He's also a walking encyclopedia when it comes to
horror flicks. Did you know that?
Yeah, when ever people ask me to
help them remember some film that they say twenty years ago I
always send them Tim's way. That's guys fucking nuts when it
comes to horror knowledge.
Yes he is. But yeah, I enjoyed working
with Tim very much.
What was the most challenging
scene to shoot for you, either physically or mentally?
I would have to say when I had to shove a bar of soap into
Ricky's mouth. It was tough because I had to be very careful not
to bust his lip or hurt his jaw, but at the same time be
convincing. Damn soap!
What element of Driftwood are you
most looking forward to people seeing?
Well seeing how most people only know me from MTV'S LAGUNA BEACH
I am excited for them to see a different side of me. I played
"the sensitive guy" on that show and now I get to play the hard
ass. They'll get to see a much darker side of me that's for
sure. It should be fun.
So any horror flicks coming out this
fall that you're looking forward to seeing?
Sure. It's more of a thriller then
horror but I'm very much looking forward to THE BLACK DAHLIA
starring Josh Hartnett and Scarlett Johansson. It looks very
intriguing.
Thanks for your time Talan. Any
final thoughts or comments?
Thanks for the interview Bucter and go
see Driftwood everyone. It's a kick ass movie.
