Although we never found Captain America: The First Avenger to be the best superhero film of all-time, it did entertain while grossing over $380 million in worldwide box office dollars.
Captain America is back teamed with Iron Man, Thor and The Hulk for Joss Whedon’s Avengers movie out this summer, but fans of the Cap will also get to see him ride solo again in a sequel that has now been given an April 4th, 2014 release date.
We cannot confirm who will be behind the camera (Joe Johnston took honors on the first film), but Indiewire is reporting that F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job, The Negotiator) and George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) are two names seriously in the running.
With no official script, there are no official plot details on which to share. There is also no guarantee that audiences will not be so saturated with superhero film releases by 2014 that they will care either. The aforementioned Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Superman, Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and a new Spider-Man film will all precede Captain America 2’s release and there are just so many times that audiences can tolerate watching the world being saved by superhero beings. We'll see.
