Sure, Ben Kingsley (sorry, Sir Ben Kingsley) has won an Academy Award for his role as Ghandi while also being recognized in nominations for Bugsy and House of Sand and Fog. But for our money – we love a bad ass Kingsley.
We loved him in Sexy Beast, thought he was the best thing in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and giggled along with his sinister ways in Lucky Number Slevin.
Kingsley is back as a villain in his new role that will put him opposite Tony Stark and Iron Man in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. According to The Guardian, Kingsley’s baddie is rumored to be taken from the 2005 Warren Ellis story Extremis and will have Sir Kingsley playing a character who spreads a virus carried by nanobots.
Kingsley’s presence immediately gives some credibility to a superhero genre that has saturated our movie screens to a level not experienced by even the Titanic. Kingsley will be following in the tradition of big name (and Oscar nominated) actors that have stood off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man that include Jeff Bridges and Mickey Rourke.
