Julianne Moore Offered Role in Carrie Remake

We reported a few weeks back that Chloe Moretz (Let Me In) will star in a remake of the Stephen King classic, Carrie. We think the casting is absolutely perfect and look forward to Moretz getting the pig blood treatment at prom before going all ape-shit on her peers.
Still, casting of Carrie’s mother, Margaret White, is essential in ensuring a successful update to the Brian DePalma classic. After all, Margaret White was originally portrayed by Piper Laurie who was so effective as the overbearing, religious nuthead mother that she was able to parlay the role into an Academy Award nomination – something rare for an actor in a horror film.
Deadline is now reporting that none other than Julianne Moore has been offered the role in the Kim Peirce directed update. Now, if Moretz can’t give the project credibility, then surely multiple Academy Award nominee Moore can.
Expected in theatres in 2013, Carrie will retell the story of young Carrie White, an outcast in High School who uses her telekinetic powers to take revenge on those that mocked and bullied her in school. The 1974 edition had Sissy Spacek playing Carrie White with John Travolta and Nancy Allen in evil supporting roles.
