Now that Ridley Scott has finished shooting Prometheus and has just the exhausting promotional tour to go, it is time to focus our speculation on his next effort which we hope is the sequel to his cult classic hit Blade Runner.
Whether a Blade Runner sequel, prequel, reboot ever happens is still to be determined, but we have received word via Collider that Hampton Fancher is working on a script.
Fancher was the genius behind the original’s screenplay adapting Phillip K. Dick’s novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.
An official press release confirmed that the movie will be a sequel (not a prequel or a reboot) and will be set many years after the conclusion of the Harrison Ford classic. "The filmmakers are also revealing for the first time that the much-anticipated project is intended to be a sequel to the renowned original," says the blurb. "The filmmakers would reveal only that the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded."
We also had revealed that the sequel will have a female lead. Says Sir Ridley Scott, “We’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist”
What does this mean to Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard? No one knows. And with filming to start in late 2013 at best, we don’t know if the studio has wheelchair accessibility to get Mr. Ford onto the set.
