Rebooting the Robocop franchise was one that we can actually get behind. Not that there was anything wrong with the original Paul Veerhoven piece about a cyborg cop working in a corrupt Detroit City. But technology can actually improve on the original and when it was announced that director Jose Padilha was given the chair with Joe Kinnaman playing the lead, we got even more excited.
The excitement dial just hit ‘11’ with the announcement that Gary Oldman has signed on to star as the scientist that puts Robocop together and “finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.’
Set for an August 9th, 2013 release date, Robocop is also expected to be rated “R” and starts shooting in Toronto later this year.
