We had mixed emotions when NBC revealed plans to relaunch The Munsters in 2012 as a serial television series. Even with sound director Bryan Singer (X-Men) at the helm, we knew it would all come down to casting.
Last month, it was reported that actor/comedian Eddie Izzard would play Grandpa Munster and Mason Cook would be Eddie. Both casting choices seemed appropriate to their roles, but Herman Munster remained uncast.
Until yesterday. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Jerry O’Connell (Piranha, Scream 2) has been cast as the head of the family and will take over the role that was made famous by Fred Gwynne.
We cannot fully endorse the man who lost his penis to a fish in 2010’s Piranha. Still, a good make-up artist can turn an actor into just about anything. We just won’t hold our breath.
