On the opening week-end, Prometheus – the Ridley Scott directed Alien prequel – made off with $50 million at the domestic box office.  Add to the tally another $91 million that the film has made overseas and Prometheus is well on its way to recouping its rumoured $200 million production budget.

What it might also suggest is another parade of Alien rip-off films to be marketed out to our DVD shelves and On Demand options screens.  Not long after Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece aboard the Nostromo, Alien rip-off movies could be found by the bushel full attempting to jump on the original bandwagon of Dan O’Bannon’s screenplay.

Killer Reviews has taken a step back in time to review these inferior copycats and we present to you the 9 most blatant rip-offs of the 1979 Alien classic.

Inseminoid (1981)
Also known as Horror Planet, this low budget horror/sci-fi had an interplanetary crew dealing with an alien that impregnates one of the women turning her into a homicidal maniac before she gives birth to the beast that causes even more trouble for the remaining crew.

Alien Contamination (1980)
An alien egg is found on a distant planet and brought back to earth where it secrets a substance that seeps into the skin and then explodes.  Things go from the ridiculous to the downright stupid when we learn that a Martian working in South America is manufacturing the eggs in an attempt at world domination.

The Intruder Within (1981)
Set in Antarctica, a group of oil drillers find some prehistoric eggs that when thawed become an alien creature that wreck havoc upon actors Chad Everett and Jennifer Warren.  The Intruder Within was like a cross between Alien and The Thing without any good scenes.

Parasite (1982)
This gem of a film starred Demi Moore and was released in 3D back in 1982.  Parasite deals with a mad scientist that develops a parasite that grows inside the stomach of a human host.  Parasite might not deal with an ‘alien’ being, but its rip off of the alien growing inside a human host is unmistakable.

Xtro (1982)
When Tony’s father Sam returns to earth after being abducted by aliens three years earlier, he is not what he seems.  Soon Tony and his mother Rachel find out that an alien is inside Sam’s body.   An alien that will eventually reveal itself.

Leviathan and Deep Star Six (1989)
Both underwater movies were released in the same year.  Leviathan had the crew of an underwater mining crew dealing with beast that lives inside the host and transforms the body into a hideous creature.  Deep Star Six was directed by Sean S. Cunningham and played more on the claustrophobia of the underwater structure a crew is trapped within while a creature goes on a murderous rampage.

Alien 3000 (2004)
The rip off here is the alien creature that looks almost exactly like the Ridley Scott, Giger inspired beast of the Alien franchise.  The producers of Alien 3000 try to make things different by setting the terror on earth and having giving the alien Predator type defence mechanisms such as being able to turn invisible.

Star Crystal (1986)
Star Crystal rips off Alien in more ways that we can list.  The movie is set in space, the alien creature oozes a gooey snot-like substance.  The crew fights off the ever growing beast with a flame thrower.  And we even get a scene where one crew member warns another that the beast must be ‘right beside you’.

Deep Space (1988)
You might even recognize the musical score playing in the background of the trailer.  Deep Space had an alien that when hatched looks almost exactly like the creature that became attached to Kane’s face after the crew of the Nostromo explored planet LV-426.
