According to a source speaking to the paper, The CW is possibly looking to bring the cult movie Battle Royale to the small screen via a weekly television show. The source tells the times that The CW is in talks for the Hollywood rights.
In the Japanese 2000 action film directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary Battle Royale act.
The story was eerily familiar with this year’s Hunger Games – a film that has grossed over $400 million domestically, so there is no surprise that the idea behind kids-killing-kids is being fully explored and exploited.
