We knew there was going to be Avengers sequel – a $1 billion worldwide box office take guaranteed it. We knew that stars Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., and Jeremy Renner would be back – they are contractually bound for a sequel. And now, we know who will write and direct what will likely be the most anticipated film of 2015.
Disney’s CEO Bob Iger announced yesterday that Joss Whedon will return to both write and direct The Avengers 2. Iger also announced that the deal reached with Whedon will also include a proposed Marvel TV show for ABC.
Marvel Studio’s had the following statement regarding Whedon’s return:
"Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel's The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe."
