I lost hope when the action film Hansel & Gretel was pushed from an early release in 2012 all the way to the wasteland of January 2013. Pushing a film by a whole year usually spells trouble. It definitely insinuates lack of confidence by the studio bosses who pick their release dates.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton and takes place 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident where the two siblings have become bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.
The idea sounded great and we were excited right up until the bait and switch. But new news about the project yesterday has again peaked our interest. Collider is reporting that test screenings have already taken place and that the film is likely to get a hard R-Rating instead of the more common and marketable PG-13.
Star Arterton did say that the film was “as much Pulp Fiction as fairy tale” so the dots seem to be connecting towards the Restricted Access.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters will be released January 11, 2013.
