A film adaptation of the popular video game series Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune sure seems like it is taking its sweet ass time. It feels like forever since Sony Pictures announced plans to bring the Naughty Dog franchise – which follows explorer Nathan Drake as he seeks lost treasure of El Dorado.
Director David O. Russell (The Fighter) was once attached. So too were a laundry list of possible stars for the lead role including Nathan Fillon, Matt Damon and Gerard Butler.
But all have since distanced themselves from the project for a myriad of reasons and the project – until now – seemed destined to sit on imaginary shelves of unrealized good ideas.
But new life has been infused into the adaptation as Variety reports that the screenwriting team that penned Nicolas Cage’s National Treasure films has been hired by the studio to hammer out the pages of a script.
Even with writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley attached, any expectation has to be tempered with the realization that it will be 2014 at the very earliest before we see Nathan Drake jump, swim, shoot and fight his way in any Indiana Jones inspired adventure.
