Joss Whedon must feel on top of the world. After getting plenty of geek cred for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dr. Horrible’s Sing A Long Blog, he burst into mass acceptance with The Avengers and Cabin in the Woods both released this year.
Whedon has signed on to direct The Avengers 2 (which will make him more money than a Stark Industries subsidiary) and part of the deal with Disney included ABC’s support of a television spin-off.
That ‘spin-off’ will come in the form of S.H.I.E.L.D. which has been picked up taking the project to the pilot stage.
Whedon and his brother Jed will write the pilot and internet chatter suggests that Whedon may be behind the camera for the first episode.
If you think that Whedon and Jed will call all the shots on the series (if picked up), think again. Variety was reporting through Cynthia Littleon’s tweets that "[Joss] reserves right to pepper in bits here and there. His bro Jed and Maurissa T. will be showrunners, he'll just show up every now and then 'and take credit for everything.'"
