Things are not going smoothly over in Chronicle 2 world. The 2011 film Chronicle about a group of young teens that happen across superpowers after making a discovery in an underground crater was both a box office and critical hit last year. So it was no surprise that 20th Century Fox quickly green-lit a sequel.
But something happened on the way to HappyLand.
According to John Landis, 20th Century Fox is not all that happy with his son Max’s draft of Chronicle 2 and as a result, efforts to get a sequel off the ground while the idea is still fresh has stalled.
“[Max] wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want Chronicle again!’" says Landis Sr. "And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution,’ and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business."
Sounds like the studio wants to make money and the writer wants to make something that progresses the basis for the original story.
It’s hard to say who will win outright (Our money is on the studio). But one thing for sure, don’t expect to see Chronicle 2 anytime soon. |
