We reported earlier that Arnold Schwarzenegger was very interested in reprising his role as Conan the Barbarian. Now, according to Deadline, we can officially attach the star to a new Conan film titled, The Legend of Conan.
Arnold’s career got a jumpstart with 1982’s Conan the Barbarian and he returned to the role again for 1984’s Conan the Destroyer. The Legend of Conan will be produced by Universal Pictures and will be penned by Robert E. Howard who was responsible for the two original films.
The storyline of the new film has yet to be revealed, but Deadline has heard that it will ignore both Conan the Destroyer and the 2011 reboot of Conan the Barbarian that bombed at the box office in 2011.
“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make,” producer Frederik Malmberg tells the site about where The Legend of Conan picks up. “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
