OK, raise your hand if you think remaking Chan woo-Park’s brilliant 2000 film Oldboy.
Wow. That looks like just about everyone.
There have been rumours over the years with even names like Steven Spielberg and Will Smith getting mixed up in all the hoopla.
But now, it looks like director Spike Lee will actually make this happen and they are expecting to meet a 2012 or 2013 release date.
Variety is now reporting that none other than Christian Bale is circling the film about a poor bastard who is locked up for 15 years and then begins a search for truth about his abduction. Bale is currently working on The Dark Knight Rises with Christopher Nolan and he has other film’s that the internet has linked him too including ones by Clint Eastwood and Darren Aronofsky.
We still don’t understand why you would want to mess with perfection. Oldboy (2000) sits in the Top 100 films on the imdb.com rating board and anyone that has seen the film knows that the subject matter and the ending may be too much for North American audiences to accept (see Battle Royale) on a level that would make the project profitable.
Still, Bale attached might peak our interest from a 0 to a 0.1. It’s a lot more comforting than having Will Wild Wild West Smith attached.
