Whether you appreciate the low budget B-films that Syfy trots out on a regular basis or not, you have to tip their hat to their creative team. After all they were the mad men behind Sharktopus, Mongolian Death Worms and Volcano in New York. Their ideas are that of a 7-year-old’s nightmare realized with budgets equalling a 7-year-old’s piggy bank. In a word, their films are ‘audacious’.
Their next original release is no less impudent. In a recent press release, Syfy announced the completion of Arachnoquake, a new film starring Edward Furlong (Terminator 2) and Tracey Gold (Growing Pains).
The idea is as simple as it is utterly ridiculous – an earthquake just outside of New Orleans unleashes giant albino spiders on the city. Let us write that again so that it sinks in – an earthquake just outside of New Orleans unleashes giant albino spiders on the city.
Brilliantly stupid!
We highly doubt that the film can match the Oscar-calibre quality of Mega Piranha or the acting showcase of Dinoshark, but we will be sucked in all the same into giving Arachnoquake a fair…shake.
