Zombies are everywhere! In movies, TV shows, commercials and probably even on lunch boxes. Finding a way to present Zombies in movies is increasingly more difficult. People have seen just about every scenario possible. Every one becomes a critic and it causes them to put every zombie aspect under a microscope. We all need to remember to have fun and quite being so damn judgmental when comes to our favorite flesh eating fiends. Zombie Exs is an upcoming release from Camp Motion Pictures that we had the pleasure of being one of the first to see it.
What would you do If a series of unfortunate events lead you to a dating show where all your ex girlfriends are the contestants? This is what happens to our main character Zach. A ladies man of sorts that always seems to attract some kind for crazy in his girlfriends. The quick answer to how they become zombies is by drinking supplemental water called "Happi Water" for woman that turns them into Zombies. Simple enough right? One of Zach’s best friends is a female named Lilly who seems to be sweet on Zach. Of course he is oblivious to the fact that she is in love with him. This relationship plays out as they battle the motley crew that has become of his exs and all that they have turned. We also have Dan who is another friend that plays the lovable loser in the film. He can't seem to get his life right but he seems to be a very loyal friend.
The Zombie Ex’s in the film actually have some dialogue which may seem surprising to some. It gives an opportunity for some hilarious interactions between Zach and his previous courtesans. Each exs interaction with Zach reflects whatever crazy part of their personality that broke them up. For example; Six Shooter Sally (who was obsessed with having kids) keeps asking him to give her a seventh child. Even though she has become a zombie she still is connected with her strong feelings to pro create. This approach on building the character to the zombies is one of the main reasons the film works. In a weird way it makes them slightly relatable. We are who we are even when we are dead. Because of this we get great death scenes with each girl that involves comic book style demise. This was my favorite part of the film! So much fun I wanted my ex girlfriends turned into Zombies! Zombie Exs is almost like watching a crazy comic book come to life. With all its humor, gore and flat out fun make for a great ride. There are even some great video game references in the movie. Finding ways to entertain the viewer in many different ways leaves you surprisingly satisfied by the end. A low budget romp in the horror comedy realm that delivers what is expected. Now, where did I put my Happi water?
